I want to seize this opportunity to advise all the parents
to accept the children the way they are, if you want to get the best from them.
In other words, you don’t condemn, bully, abuse or shout at them to ensure
conformity. Hence, this is called negative reinforcement.
However, parents are expected to apply ‘positive
reinforcement’ on their children by motivating them and lovely pointing out
their mistakes to them. More so, right from the cradle, babies and young children must
be intimately motivated to communicate and to investigate the world around them so as to learn. Consequently, this will facilitate them to learn faster and the
ability to interpret what they see, hear and touch as they explore their
surroundings and the people around because children love to learn by trying
things out for themselves. This enhances first hand experiences. Also, by being physically
active, interacting with others, having their interest taken seriously, playing
and having fun, being given an interesting, stimulating and safe environment to
explore and investigate.
Furthermore, I will like to admonish all the
parents/guardians and teachers to create a rich and stimulating learning environment,
to keep records based on observations of children’s development and use this to
plan for future learning and to decide how they should be involved to ensure
that all aspects of children’s learning and development are supported.
